Sandra exhaled deeply and replied
saying, "I'm ready." That time of the
night wasn't only the darkest hour
but also a hazardous hour. One
could see a narrow road before the
two girls, Sandra and Kate who
wore black gowns without
footwears. In Kate's hands were a
torchlight, two seeds of Maize and a
broom stick. She broke it into two
equal parts and handed one to
Sandra who hesitantly took it from
her. It was obvious that Kate had
embarked on the journey before,
and it was an onslaught and
proactive one.
"Enclose the broom stick with your
lips. In no account must you talk
until we reach our destination" Kate
told Sandra. She did the same thing
and moved forwards through the
narrow road followed by Sandra.
Grasses flung on their legs as they
walked briskly. The more they
walked, the darker the forest
became. Who is/are the owner of
the dark forest of Ikuku, and what lie
in it? Those were questions that was
running through the mind of
Sandra. Nevertheless, she quickened
her steps. The ray of light from the
torchlight only illuminated at a close
range.
After thirty minutes of walking, the
girls got to a place where there were
few grasses but many tall trees
standing in rolls. Sandra stopped
and glanced at every angel of the
forest then became scared due to
the darkness and strange sounds
she was hearing. Her legs vibrated
and lips shook regardless the broom
stick enclosed in them. Kate turned
after she didn't hear her footsteps
again then flashed the torchlight on
her face. She waved her hand to her
in way that shows: COME! As Sandra
wanted to move forward, the
ground began to shake thereby
making her fall on the ground...

At the resident of Mr Robinson inside
his room, he woke up and put on
the light. One could see him on
boxers while his wife was covered
with a blanket. Immediately he
tapped her, she woke up.
"What's it my husband?" the wife sat
up robbing her sleepy eyes.
"I want you to tell me what
happened today" the husband
requested and glanced at the wall
clock: 12:15am. "What happened
yesterday rather?" he added.
"I don't understand"
"Why did you accuse the young girl,
Udoka of what she didn't do? Now
listen, is hard time you left some bad
character of yours and behave
yourself for ones! What did the poor
girl do to you?"
"Nnayi, i don't like her!" the wife
shrieked then the husband became
surprise at the tone of her voice
glaring at her speechlessly.
"Why would you develop hatred for
a girl you just met at the first time
unlike what you told me about the
other girl called Sandra. What are u
up to?"
"Nnayi, I'm not up to anything" the
wife began. "Don't you know that
Udoka is an outcast.."
"Was an outcast" Mr Robinson
corrected.
"It doesn't matter. I won't allow my
son marry her"
"Marriage?" the husband opened his
eyes widely in amazement. "Who's
talking about marriage here? So you
are planning to give Sandra to our
son to marry. What is wrong with
you?! I think there is a skeleton in
your cupboard"
"Nnayi, the only thing in my
cupboard are beverages not a
skeleton"
"Well, i must find out what you are
up to" Mr Robinson put off the light
then laid to sleep while the wife also
did the same in soliloquy.

At the resident of the twins, Monica
hadn't woken up. She had never had
a dream ever since they discovered
the diamonds. The only thing unique
about her dreams was that they
normally come to pass and that's
probably why she doesn't dream
frequently.
:
DREAM
In the presence of all strange faces
converged around a white casket,
only Monica was close to it crying
her eyes out. Darkness covered all
the environment but a light from
above shone only at the casket.
What was happening there? Of
course a burial was taking place
which Monica knew it was her twin
sister's burial, Udoka whose dead
body was inside the casket.
Suddenly, four unknown faces
carried the casket.
"No!" Monica carried. "Don't take her
away! Bring back my sister! She's
not dead! Noooo!" she shouted
physically.
:
REALITY
Monica's voice did not only wake
Udoka but Adaku and Faith too who
hurried to their room forcefully.
They could see Monica in tears
sweating and breathing heavily.
Already, Udoka had drew closer to
her in anticipation of what the
problem was.
"Bia, this girl, ongini?" Adaku asked
sitting at the edge of the bed with
Faith.
"Monica, what is it?" Udoka asked
calmly. Without replying, Monica
hugged her tightly which surprised
the girls. Adaku and Faith glanced at
each other then directed their eyes to
Udoka who gave them sign to
leave...

Back to the dark forest, Kate had
helped Sandra up after the shaking
of the ground which was totally
strange to her coz it had never
happened before. They had gotten
to their destination standing before a
strange iroko tree. At the base of the
tree were totems..
