THE DARKEST HOUR (Cry of an angel)

Only the twins were around when
the heavy rain began. Monica had to
suspend what she was doing to
listen to her sister who called her
attention on the bed.
"Have you met a guy before?"
Udoka asked.
"Guy?" Monica became surprise.
"Why are we discussing about
guys?"
"Coz one wants to take me out
today. His name is David the owner
of the number you were asking me
about. We are having a date today,
so i feel like letting you know. Please,
mother shouldn't hear about it"
Udoka said.
Monica became quiet then eventually
smiled in a way that shows: MY
GESTURE WAS RIGHT. "Is okay but
it's raining" she said.
"I hope the rain stops on time"
"Alright, i got ur back" Monica smiled
again.
"Why are u always smiling?" Udoka
asked as she was leaving the bed
back to the cushion.
"Coz the whole thing sounds new to
me" Monica replied then they
giggled.

After an hour and some minutes,
the rain stopped. One could see
David dressing up. As he was
buckling his shirt, he glanced at his
wrist watch: 5:25pm. After dressing,
he walked out from his room to
meet his father in the sittingroom.
The father was in a good mood as a
result of a funny T.V. programme
he was watching.
"Dad?" David sat on a couch without
his father responding or looking at
him. So he began to watch the
programme with him smiling and
giggling occasionally. Few minutes
later he glanced at his wrist watch
and called the father again. "Dad!"
"Yes, what's it?" the father looked at
him. "And where are u going
dressing like this?" he asked.
"To see my friend"
"Okay" the father concentrated.
David waited as he scratched his
head coz he wanted to ask for a
permission to use his father's car.
When the father noticed it, he said,
"Take a fuel of container and my car.
Buy fuel on ur way back"
"Okay, dad" David rejoiced and left
immediately.

In front of the cyber cafe, David
waited patently inside the blue
camry car with black glasses. He
glanced at his wrist watch again:
5:45pm. He began to lose hope.

On the other hand, Udoka had not
prepared. She was still on the
cushion even when the rain had
stopped.
"Udoka" Monica called her when she
stood up from the bed after a short
sleep. "Are you still here? The rain
has stopped"
"I'm nervous, Monica. Moreover, i
don't have a good cloth to wear"
Udoka replied.
"What cloth were you putting on
before the guy saw you? You can
wear that one because he probably
liked it that's why he came to you at
the first time" Monica smiled at her
words. "That's my own idea oh coz
i don't know how these things
work" she added then Udoka smiled
too.
"Please, follow me" Udoka
requested.
"No oh! Mother will suspect. And
moreover, i can go there and cause
confusion"
"What will i even say if i get there?"
"Like i said, i have no idea. Why
don't you ask Sunny or Trust"
Monica suggested.
"I better remain here than asking
them" Udoka objected.

David came out from the car and
occasionally checking the time. The
cold weather became unbearable
even with the jacket he wore to
prevent it, so he entered into the car
again. Just as he glanced at the side
mirror, he saw Udoka coming out
from a tricycle. She wore a pair of
trouser and a top with flat cover
shoe on her feet. She packed her
natural hair backwards with a faint
make-up: powder and white wetlips.
David came out immediately and
opened the door for her but she
hesitated with her hands folded.
"Get in" David said still holding the
door.
"Whose car is.."
"My dad's" David interrupted.
Udoka glanced at him then entered
before he closed the door. He also
entered to put the key in the ignition
but stopped. He noticed that she
was feeling cold, therefore, he pulled
his jacket and covered her with it.
"Thanks" Udoka said and wore it
properly.
"Welcome" David smiled admiring
her beauty. "You look beautiful" he
added.
"Thanks. Can we go now?"
"Sure" David drove out with all the
glasses closed. Nobody could see
them but they can see everybody.
As they drove, David's phone rang
then Udoka glanced at the caller,
'Sandra' but averted her eyes. David
picked the call with a hand and
handled the stirring with another
hand.
"Hi, Dave"
"Hi, I'm driving. I'll call you when i
get home" David said and cut the call
immediately.

Udoka found herself in a restaurant
still with the jacket on her body
sitting opposite David. A table with
food stood inbetween them. David
was eating while Udoka was lazy
enough to put a spoon into her
mouth. That was evidence of
nervousness.
"Are you okay?" David broke the
silence.
"Yes" Udoka replied.
"Then smile"
Udoka smiled remembering his
statement about girls smiling.
"Do you have a sister?"
"Yes, my twin"
"Twin?" David stopped eating.
"Yes, we are the only children of our
mother"
"Wow.." David took a spoonful rice
while she did the same too.
"Do you also have a sister?" Udoka
tried to be lively.
"Yes, my twin" David replied.
"Twin?" Udoka asked surprisingly.
"Kidding!" David laughed.
"Silly boy" Udoka smiled.
"She's my younger sister"
"Ok. Where are u from?" Udoka
asked again.
